Hurtigruten Day 10
Another day of beautiful sunshine and blue skies. Another crossing of the Arctic Circle ceremony again but we skipped the festivities and went to breakfast instead.... been there done that!
Today is a relatively quiet day with a 75 minute stay in Bronnoysund later in the day from 3.45pm to 5pm. We were off the ship but no map available so headed for the church then did a circuit around the harbour and through the town and back to the ship. Nothing much open as it is the weekend. Quite hot today... in the early 20's and perfect for sitting on the open decks.
We then headed for the Helgeland coast with its abundance of islands, islets, reef and steep mountain walls. This is also the home of the unique rock formation Hestmannen, Torghatten with its distinct hole and the spectacular Seven Sisters mountain range. All seven mountains are between 900 and 1100m high and according to the legend, seven sisters were turned to stone because they forgot to hide from the sun.
Our dinner tonight was the Captain's Farewell dinner complete with complimentary champagne. The staff were all dressed up in their uniformed to greet us as we entered the dining room and then later during the meal all the staff gathered and sang a song. It was a nice way to say thank you and goodbye. Our table mates leave us tonight too so we will be on our own for the last night! Date night!!
We had another stop in Rorvik which is where the rock band DDE were playing on our first visit going north. This was a relatively late visit from 8.30pm to 9.30pm although we were 15 mins late arriving so that cut our time back to 45 minutes. There were a lot of hoons and drunks hooning around on our first visit and like clockwork they were back doing wheelies in the car park near the ship. Certainly entertained a few of the passengers!! We walked through the Main Street which was completely dead... not a single person around and nothing not even the bar was open and it was Saturday night!! It was like walking into Movie World or Old Sydney Town while it was closed! Eerie....
We then found a quiet corner on the ship and played cards and watch the sunset which literally takes hours.... they don't call it the midnight sun for nothing!!
Tomorrow is day 11 and our last full day on the ship.
A fancy bridge and one of many that we went under
The crew sing to us
