Venice - Day 1
We arrived into Venice the day before our scheduled stop. This was due to a medical emergency on board which necessitated the Captain turning back to the closest land which was Corfu and required two hours of cruising. This was necessary so the helicopter could be sent out to airlift the patient to a hospital. This effectively put us a good 4 hours behind schedule but hopefully saved someone's life. The reports from the Captain have said the patient is stable. We arrived into Venice in the evening around 6.30pm. We will now have two nights and two full days to explore this beautiful city.
After we had clearance from immigration we wondered off the ship and meandered our way through the cobblestoned streets and navigating the Canal system until we arrived at St Mark's Square.
When the sun set the temperature was perfect for walking.
After wondering through a flooded St Mark's Square which required us to remove our shoes, and taking in the grandeur of the buildings we headed for the free shuttle back to the ship as it was now 11.30pm and we have a relatively early start tomorrow. The city in general was fairly deserted by this time with not much at all open so bed was calling loud and clear!!
Tomorrow we are heading out into the country and to the prosecco making area.....
