Cobh

Cobh, Ireland
Our second last port is Cobh (pronounced cove) in Ireland.  The main places of interest here are Blarney Castle and the city of Cork and of course the Irish pubs!! On our previous visit we did a private tour to Blarney Castle to kiss the stone, had lunch in the beautiful seaside town of Kinsale and visited the old fort.  This visit would have been ideal to venture into Cork as we have a long day.... all on board at 10.30pm.... but due to my head cold or allergy I was not feeling that energetic so we opted to explore the streets of Cobh.

We were off the ship by 9.30am but most things don't open till at least 10!  We were armed with a walking map that I had downloaded from the internet and we set out on foot.  The temperature was slightly cool but ideal for walking up hill!  We made our way to the Cathedral at the top but as there was a service in progress inside we carried on and headed for the Titanic Memorial Garden.  We found the garden which was overgrown and the memorial is glass which made it hard to read.

We then headed back to the main part of town where Peter had to have a beer to use the restroom and then decided he should have a haircut for 10 euros.  I took the opportunity to look at the shops which did not amount to much or take long.

It was now lunchtime so we stopped off  at a cafe with free internet but once again a poor choice for food.

After a bit more roaming we made our way back to the ship for a rest before heading to meet up with friends in a bar somewhere.

All in all our day was a tad boring but it was what it was!  Next year we will have another long day in port so we will get the train to Cork and make better use of our time.... and hopefully I will feel better!!

Only two days to go now before we disembark in Dover....one sea day tomorrow to pack then a day in Le Havre.

  1. Looks like a wonderful place. Really interesting architecture and such beautiful flowers. The little dancers look so cute and the costumes of the ladies are so vibrant. If only all ports looked like that one and were so convenient. Must be great to be able to hop on and off the ship at will. Was there some sort of festival on, i'm sure I spotted some Australian flags in a picture?
