Copenhagen

Copenhagen, Denmark
We woke to the alarm and beautiful sunshine after a late noisy wet night.

Our breakfast is included in our tariff and is help yourself and clean up after yourself.  The spread of food is quite different to what we are used to.  There was the typical cereals that we are all familiar with, boiled eggs, beautiful freshly baked bread, pastries, cut up fresh fruit and array of cheese, cold meats, dried fruits, pickles, olives plus more.  A good start to the day!

We had to meet at the Town Hall at 10am for our 3 hour walking tour.  I had booked the"Copenhagen Free Walking Tour" online but guess what it is not "free".  The same as what we found out in Venice!  Free means that the guides do not get paid and you pay a gratuity at the end based on how good you thought the tour was.  The tour was good and we were happy to pay a tip but wish they would advertise accordingly.  A trap for newbies....

Our tour took us around the city and covered all the iconic tourist must sees.  The tour finished at the Royal Palace so we carried on our walk along the waterfront to see the Fountain and the Little Mermain.... the second most disappointing attraction in the world!  The first is the little boy peeing in Brussels, Belgium.

We did find time to sit at a bar and reenergise with a Mojito.  The bars here provide fold up sun chairs that you can take to wherever it suits you to sit.

When then walked to Rosenborg Castle which was once the favourite residence of King Christian IV.  Inside are magnificent displays of many furnishings, art treasures and Crown Jewels.

Our feet were telling us they needed a rest so back to the hotel for legs up then out again to the the alternate Christanshavn for some street food.  There is a big street fare market that was packed with people enjoying the balmy night.  Inside the market consisted of many different stalls of food from all over the world.  There was also a great jazz band playing which had attracted a huge crowd.  So another late night to bed.

Thankfully in the morning we can check out at 11.30 so we can sleep in.

Tomorrow we board the Regal Princess for our Baltic Cruise.

We woke to a beautiful morning.... the view from our hotel room

An art exhibition that included this display of old life jackets used by refugees

An old George Jensen clock that was on display inside the Town Hall

A beautiful cobblestoned street... the 2 brick houses at the end on the left are some of the oldest standing houses that survived all the old fires.

Amalienborg Palace.  This is Princess Mary's house and also includes houses for the Queen and Frederic's brother.  No one was home as all on summer vacation.  Interestingly Mary and Frederic currently have an exchange student staying with them from Tassie.  Lucky girl!

  1. Great pictures as per usual. I wonder why they don't send back the life jackets to Africa for re use?? In fact I wonder how many refugee life jackets actually make it to Denmark? Probably none!! If the installation was in Italy or Lesbos it would have much more impact.
