London to Copenhagen

London to Copenhagen
Our last day in London was a short one as we had to leave at 8am to get to Gatwick Airport for our newly adjusted flight time.  Our original flight with Norwegian Air was booked for 1.30pm but was changed to 11.30am.

This meant we had to get an Uber to the train station at 8am to get the 8.30 train to Gatwick airport.  All went to plan with only seconds to spare at the station.

The train to the airport dropped us right under the terminal which made it very easy.  When checking for our boarding gate we found that our flight had been delayed till 12md.  The plane didn't actually take off until the original time of 1.30pm as they were waiting for the crew to arrive from another flight.   All that extra sleep we could've should've had!

The electronic self check in process went well until we had to drop off the checked bags.... we were allowed 20kg per checked bag and 10kg for carry on bag.  You have to place the bags (yourself) onto the conveyor belt to be weighed.... mine was 24kg and DH was 19.8kg.  So off we go over to the side where others were repacking bags.  We were able to pack some heavy things like shoes into our hand luggage but it did take a bit of manoeuvring and reweighing until we got it right.  Luckily we had plenty of time to play around!  The guy was keen for us to just go to the desk and pay for the excess.... I don't think so!

The flight went smoothly and when we touched down it was quite cool and had been raining.  We decided to get the Metro to Kongens Nytorf which was only a 5 minute walk to our hotel.  As there was a lot of road walks and construction going on we missed the detour access footpath which made our walk twice as long.  It wasn't really a problem but dragging a large case over cobblestones is not ideal as the wheels get stuck in the grooves!

Our hotel was situated right on Nyhavn Canal with our room at the front overlooking the Canal. The view was always changing depending on the time of the day as well as the noise levels.... these Danes know how to party plus the annual Jazz Festival was in full swing!

After settling into our room we decided to have an early dinner.  On checking Trip Advisor we chose a Thai restaurant with good reviews that was not too far to walk in the rain.  Well the heavens opened and by the time we got to the restaurant we were pretty wet even with umbrellas!  The meal was I would say the best Thai I have had and probably the most expensive!!

After dinner the rain had stopped and as it doesn't get dark till around 10pm we decided to go for a walk to orientate ourselves and to make the most of the limited time we have to explore this beautiful city.

We ended up in a little pub near our hotel with a live band.  They were great and it was nice to sit and take in the atmosphere with a wine.  We could have stayed there longer but it was late.....

We got to bed at 1am so thought it best set the alarm to be up early for breakfast and our 10am walking tour around the city.... hope the sun is shining!!
